Here is one bad news for all your iPhone lovers. Getting an untethered jailbreak for the new iOS 6 could take longer than you thought. If you are following iPhone news very seriously, you would know that one of the most popular iOS jailbreakers, MuscleNerd, stated yesterday that he has been successful in getting a tethered jailbreak for the new iOS 6. But he has not yet revealed what exploit he is using for the tethered jailbreak.
Also in news yesterday, another popular iOS jailbreaker, pod2g, tweeted that Apple has patched the jailbreak vulnerability that the jailbreak community has been using for the last two years. This means that the loophole in the iOS code which was first discovered by Comex, another celebrated iOS jailbreaker, and which has been used to get untethered jailbreak for the last two years, is now no more. So it would obviously take some time for jailbreakers to research the code of the new version of iOS to check if there are any vulnerabilities and then exploit it to get untethered jailbreak. Until then, we will just have to wait.
Some people who follow Apple and its community closely say that this is a result of hiring Comex as an intern student at Apple last year. People say it could be in Apple’s agreement with Comex that he would help the company in closing all the vulnerabilities open at the time and that might surface in the future so that there would be no more jailbreaking and breaking the rules.
But still, the release of the final release of the new version of iOS, iOS 6, is expected to be sometime by the year end. That means there is still a lot of time for the jailbreakers to come up with some solution for untethered jailbreak of the iOS 6.
