The specifications for the Acer Aspire S5 ultrabook have finally been revealed. Earlier during CES this year, the device was previewed with some impressive features.
At 15 mm, Acer claimed that it is the world’s thinnest ultrabook. A Thunderbolt port, which is a new compact input output technology for fast transmission of high-resolution display and data for a speed of up to 20 Gbps was spotted on the notebook as well. Yet apart from these, Acer decided to withhold the ultrabook’s other features and its estimated price, preferring to keep consumers wondering. The company, however, mentioned that the Aspire S5 would be available sometime during the second quarter of the year.
Now, thanks to the Microsoft Store, consumers now have a list of the technical specifications of the Aspire S5 ultrabook. This device will run on an Intel Core i7-2517U Ivy Bridge processor with a clock speed of 1.9 GHz. A 256 GB Solid State Disk and 4 GB of RAM provide ample storage space and fast computing speeds.
Acer is retaining the Thunderbolt port, which will likely be one of the device’s main selling points. This compact port will be located behind a port door called Magic Flip. This conceals other ports like HDMI out, a Display port, and USB 3.0 ports. The device will moreover be equipped with a 13.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
Acer is packing this device with add-on features like Instant On which rouses the ultrabook from sleep mode in as little as 1.5 seconds. Instant Connect, meanwhile, allows users to keep some processes such as e-mail and social networking feeds running even on sleep mode. Through the use of a smartphone, the ultrabook can also be awakened instantaneously.
The Acer Aspire S5 ultrabook costs $1,399 via pre-order from Microsoft. This will enable users to avail of an upgrade to Windows 8 for only $14.99. The scheduled ship out date is June 25th.
