Verizon to seed ICS update to Galaxy Nexus starting tomorrow

If you are a Samsung Galaxy Nexus owner and have been waiting for the Android 4.0.4 update, your wait might be coming to an end. There has been rampant rumors that Verizon has been planning to release the Android 4.0.4, the latest build of Ice Cream Sandwich, for all its Samsung Galaxy Nexus devices soon. But how soon? According to the latest rumor, which comes from a Verizon customer, that the update will start as soon as tomorrow.

The news was leaked by a Verizon customer who visited one of their store for some thing which is not mentioned. He was shown a Verizon proprietary document which detailed the upcoming over the air (OTA) update of the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.  If the update is true, your device would update automatically once it is ready.

These OS updates are completely determined by the carrier, in this case Verizon.  Supposedly Verizon had been having trouble packaging all their existing apps with the new ICS, but it’s apparently been resolved and ready to be released soon.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was ironically the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich device. And it is also the flagship device of the manufacturer Samsung and the operating system developer, Google.  Therefore, it’s been frustrating for its owners to be one of the last to get the 4.0.4 update.  Instead of waiting for the update, some users have resorted to rooting their phone to run their phone on a more stable custom ROM. That is one of the benefits of having an Android device over an Apple iPhone. You can install custom ROMs and increase battery life, performance speed, and other additional features for your smart phone.

Stay tunes Nexus owners, your update could be imminent.

Update: as of midday on 05/23, apparently update has not yet been released…WTF Verizon!

  1. NOT. I bought this Day 1 and still no update. I tell you, the Google/Samsung/Verizon combo is really making me SICK. Sick enough to think about going T-Mobile/Apple, and at least a little excited about the Microsoft possibilities around the corner. I bought the lie: “the flagship phone will be first and special” BS.

As a side note, I am having very few problems with this phone. It works like a charm (except the front camera points slightly to the side, which is Samsung’s shoddy manufacturing).

What irritates me is I paid TOP DOLLAR for a phone that was sold as “Pure Google” so that THESE KINDS OF DELAYS WON’T HAPPEN. Someone at Google should be tap-dancing all over Verizon’s forehead if it really is a Verizon issue.

  2. “Supposedly Verizon had been having trouble packaging all their existing apps with the new ICS,…”

    Seriously. I hate their apps.

  3. Is it going to happen or not?
Why does it take so long?
    Good phone…bad support.

  4. I dont know what everyone else has been experiencing with the Verizon Nexus. I have had it for a few months now, never rooted it or anything, kept it completely stock. Mine never drops any calls, its battery last me at least 15 – 20 hours with moderate use, sometimes 2 days with low use. All I have done is disabled a few apps, turned off any kind of vibration, just messed with it in my own safe ways, and I’m still running Android 4.0.2.

  5. Still no update.
This phone still can’t hold down a phone call for more then a few minutes.
