AppNation Is Less Than 10 Days Away We Talk With Founder Drew Ianni

If you’re an app developer on any operating system and at any level you need to get to an AppNation conference. AppNation holds a giant annual conference every year in San Francisco and several boutique events like the AppNation conference and  TV 3.0 Summit happening May 15th and 16th in New York City.

This year’s New York AppNation event is happening in conjunction with Internet Week New York which is happening a few weeks earlier than the normal first week in June when IWNY has been held in the past. There are hundreds of things going on in New York as part of IWNY, but AppNation has got to be one of the biggest.

AppNation founder Drew Ianni has done a great job of recruiting top tier speakers to speak on every possible nook and cranny of the app ecosystem. Ianni also does a great job of pricing the AppNation learning conferences so that big time development studios and Fred in the Shed developers aren’t breaking the bank to get to the conference.

At the end of our interview with Ianni he gives us a gerat discount code so make sure you head to appnationconference.com and register. You won’t want to miss it. We’re back again this year as a media partner and we plan on learning a lot.

You’ll recognize a lot of the companies that are speaking and presenting at the App Nation NYC Mobile Summit. Bloomberg, NBC, Time Inc, 20th Century Fox, Nickelodeon, Urban Airship, Mozilla, Glu Mobile, Shazam and Google are just a sample of what’s to come May 16th in New York City.

Drew took some time out of his busy schedule planning this event to talk to us about it check out the interview after the break

Drew tell us a bit about how you started appnation?

I was looking to do a show focusing on mobile and apps and didn’t see a show out there focusing on the business conversation for app developers of all sizes.  We want to help start-up developers earn a living and build great businesses and help leading media, entertainment, and content companies — as well as leading brands and agencies — figure out how to make sense and build new products and services in this exciting space.

What did you do before the appnation conferences?

Immediately before, I was the Global Event Chairman and Head of Programming for the ad:tech series of conferences in North America and Asia.   Before ad:tech, I held a variety of positions in the digital agency and online advertising research space and worked for companies such as BBDO, Jupiter, AKQA and others
Now we’re glad to be appnation alumni so I’ve got to ask is Appnation in New York next week going to  be the biggest one yet?

Our show in New York is actually more of a boutique show (compared to our national conference in San Francisco).  The show in New York is focused more on how apps, mobile, and connected TVs are impacting large media, entertainment, and advertising companies.  Having said that, we will also showcase leading app developers and mobile entrepreneurs.
How have you been able to attract such big name speakers and big name companies?

Well, it’s simply being persistent and I suppose it helps that I have been in the digital media business for about 15 years now and have had the pleasure of meeting a wide range of executives from across this exciting industry.

Since we’ve been to and covered appnation conferences before, they seem to us like big gigantic developer events with top tier speakers and tracks but your pricing is very low, are you hoping to attract the fred in the shed developers that might not be able to make it to a WWDC or even Google IO with a conference that has a similar caliber in curriculum and speakers?

We certainly hope that our conferences — and our national conference in San Francisco in particular — reaches developers of all shapes and sizes and we do feature a pricing range where we are able to offer those Freds in Sheds an opportunity to come to our events and also affordably showcase their apps if that’s of interest to them.
Give us three reasons that someone should use our discount code and get an appnation ticket now?

1) Our show will help you learn how to make money and build a great business
2) Our show will afford you the opportunity to meet a range of industry executives including potential partners and investors
3) Our show will give you the opportunity to learn about emerging best practices as well as look at burgeoning app trends across emerging platforms

At previous appnation conferences there’s been a healthy mix of Android, iOS and even Blackberry and Windows Phone developers and speakers, are we going to see the same thing this year?

I do expect there will be representation from across all of the above platforms.

From what I understand you’re NY based, are you glad to be home for this spring’s conference?

I am.  It’s always great to do a show back on my home turf.  It’s been a long-time coming

Are we expecting any big announcements out of Appnation?

We do expect some announcements.  Stay tuned this week and at the show!
