After a couple dozen social game were under their belts, without a mega hit New York’s OMGPOP was evaluating their options for the future.
After their last round of venture funding they weren’t sure if they would be able to pull another. Early stage investors were beginning to worry about the company.
Little did anyone know they had an ace up their sleeve in a social pictionary style game called Draw Something.

Draw Something, which is available for both iOS and Android pits two opponents against each other. Each player has a choice of three words at three point levels. Once a word is selected you have to draw it and make sure the drawing is good enough for your partner to guess.
Like similar mobile social games you can play multiple games at the same time. You can also choose an opponent you know from Facebook or the Draw Something network. If you’re feeling adventurous you can opt for a random opponent and make a new friend.
Draw Something caught on like wildfire. People love the social aspect of it as well as some of the picture topics coming from pop culture. Draw Something has everything from the sun, houses, and stop signs to pictures like Lady GaGa, Titanic, xbox and lil Wayne to draw.
How fast has the Draw Something phenomenon caught on? Well they received 50 million downloads in 50 days. There are over 3000 pictures drawn every second and 6 billion pictures have been drawn to date.
Draw Something was able to knock the Zynga social mobile hit “Words With Friends” out of the top spot. How did Zynga react to being knocked out of the top spot by OMGPOP? They bought the company two weeks ago for $180 million dollars.
