A couple of weeks ago when we were in Austin Texas for South By Southwest Interactive we got to attend a session with Instagram’s CEO Kevin Systrom. During that presentation he talked about how huge Instagram had become and he showed off a version of Instagram for Android. He also promised that it would arrive soon.
Well it looks like it’s getting closer. Instagram has posted an official sign up sheet for those of us Android users who want to have the excitement of the Instagram phenomenon on our Android phones. Just go over to this link and enter your email address. The Instaragram team promises to let you know when it’s ready.
More after the break
Instagram is a photo sharing app that started on iOS. It includes a handful of fun and retro filters that you can add to your photo before sharing it with your Instagram network, Twitter and Facebook. Instagram has just recently allowed hipstamatic access to sharing photos on the Instagram network as well. Prior to now Instagram has been very closed.
Systrom has said that the Android version of the app will have more features when it rolls out. We haven’t seen this much hype over an iPhone app coming to Android since Rovio first brought Angry Birds to Android two years ago.
Instagram currently has 27 million subscribers and adding more Android users to the service will only help their numbers grow.
