Theverge has obtained an internal Walmart memo that cites a new 8gb Barnes & Noble Nook presumably to take on Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet. If the memo is to be believed than the new 8gb Nook Tablet should be in WalMart stores on Wednesday morning.
If we do in fact see a new Barnes and Noble Nook on Wednesday it will be one of the quietest launches ever, as no one knew this was coming.
Right now, the original Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire are almost toe to toe in spec. Both devices are 7″ and run with Android in the background. Both sport 1024×600 screens. Both devices have 1ghz dual core processors, wifi, and 8 hours of battery life. The current Nook Tablet has 16gb of storage vs the Kindle Fires 8gb of storage. That extra 8 gb carries a $50 price difference.
The Nook Tablet that we could see on Wednesday puts the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire at the exact same specs and presumably the exact same price point.
We’ll have to check our local Walmart’s on Wednesday morning.
