Sony Xperia Active Available Unlocked In The U.S.

Sonny Ericsson’s rugged Android phone designed for users with an active lifestyle is now available in the U.S.

The Sony Xperia Active is now available at and other online retailers, unlocked for use on AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States. The Xperia Active joins the Xperia Neo and other Sony Ericsson handsets that failed to get major carrier placement and are being sold unlocked.

The Xperia line of Android phones are high end Android devices. Some have beautiful displays powered by Sony’s Bravia engine and should have no trouble selling in the U.S. however Sony Ericsson hasn’t had the chutzpah that Samsung, HTC and even LG have experienced here.

Last year at MWC Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg had said he hopes to beef up Sony Ericsson smartphone sales in the U.S. this year. Earlier this fall Sony decided to buy out Ericsson’s half of their partnership. Sony is planning on bringing their mobile phone line under their consumer electronics umbrella.

The Sony Xperia Active builds upon Sony Ericsson’s Xperia franchise and adds lifestyle components for working out as well a ruggedness.
