Pentagon Approves Android

In a world that was at one time strictly exclusive to RIM and the Blackberry Platform, The United States Department of Defense and the Pentagon have approved Android for use on their networks.

Specifically the Dell Venue running Android 2.2, Froyo, has been cleared for Pentagon network access. Also there are limitations in place with the Dell Venue Pro’s running Android. For starters, no classified information can be transmitted to or from the device.

The Android Market has been removed from Dell Venue Pro’s with access to the Pentagon network. Also there are limitations on web browsing from the Android devices. All web browsing must be done through a DOD proxy server.

As we said above, although this is just one handset on an older version of Android, this is territory that was at one time sacred to RIM/Blackberry and their business model.
