Cricket Officially Unveils Huawei Mercury

Leap Wireless International/Cricket Wireless has officially announced that the Huawei Mercury is coming to their network.

Although this phone wasn’t much of a secret (we discussed it at CTIA in San Diego). It’s the most anticipated phone to ever hit the national prepaid carrier.  The Huawei Mercury brings a solid “superphone” running Gingerbread to Cricket at an affordable price.

The Huawei Mercury features a 1.4ghz processor, 4″ FWVGA screen and rear and front facing cameras.

More after the break

The Huawei Mercury was first leaked by PC Magazine’s resident phone guru Sascha Segan in June. Although the Huawei Mercury is available now with Gingerbread, it was reported back in June that it would quickly be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In fact the Huawei Honor, a phone released overseas, has already started an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade path.
Cricket has also added their “Cricket Storefront Client” to the Huawei Mercury which allows users who have “flex bucket” funds available, to purchase wallpapers, ringtones, apps and games.  The Huawei Mercury is available at Cricket retailers for $249.99 and it’s yours to keep.  It’s also available online at http://mycricket.com
