For those of you that have purchased an Amazon Kindle fire just because you wanted to strip it of it’s Amazon-ness you’re probably well aware that the Android powered tablet was rooted back on November 16th. On Monday it was reported by Theverge.com that XDA developer JackpotClavin was able to port CyanogenMod 7 to the tablet.
The ROM is still a work in progress and the XDA developer is reporting that Wifi is working ok however the toucscreen controller is buggy. The XDA guys will definitely get it working fluidly as they have with most other Android devices, but this is definitely a start.
Vlad Savov at theverge does point out that rooting and porting CM7 over to the Kindle Fire will strip it of the Amazon ecosystem. Some new Kindle Fire owners have found that the Amazon ecosystem is just as welcome as the Android Market and in some cases a little more refined. Remember Amazon has been in this internet business for some 15 years already.
