Verizon Wireless issued a press release this afternoon acknowledging that they will in fact carry the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The press release was somewhat vague, leaving out the information that everyone was looking for like pricing and availability. As far as availability goes Verizon has said it will arrive “sometime later this year”. As for pricing we are still in the dark, however we are hearing $299 on a new two year commitment.
Verizon Wireless has long been rumored to be receiving the Samsung Galaxy Nexus even before we heard the official name and months before the official announcement earlier this week in Hong Kong. There have actually been two true pictures of a Verizon Wireless branded Galaxy Nexus including one that was used to take video used in Google’s presentation Tuesday night.
When Samsung and Google took the stage on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning HK time), they only revealed that Japan’s DoCoMo would carry the Android 4.0 flagship device. It was revealed on Wednesday that UK carriers Three, O2 and Vodafone would also carry the device.
Earlier today, our friends at Brief Mobile uncovered a purchase order allegedly from Sprint showing that Galaxy Nexus posters were heading to Untied Cellular, Sprint’s largest third party retailer.
It was also rumored that the Verizon Wireless version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would hit Verizon shelves as part of a triple play on November 10th. The recently announced Motorola Razr along with the HTC Resound are supposed to be announced November 10th as well. With the wording “later this year” we are skeptical that we will actually see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in 3 weeks.
