Motorola and Verizon Wireless have begun sending press invites out to an exclusive event next week. The invitation (as you can see) says they are introducing something Faster, Thinner, Smarter, Stronger, that is the next big innovation from Motorola Mobility.
Motorola and Verizon have held stand alone press events in the past but only for the Motorola Droid and the Motorola Droid X2. The Droid Bionic was announced in two different portfolio events at CES 2012. Verizon had a press event announcing their 4G LTE devices and Motorola had their own event that highlighted the Motorola Xoom, Atrix and the original design of the Bionic.
This event could possibly be for the device rumored right now as the “Motorola Razr” that would certainly qualify “thinner” and with the specs that have hit the interwebs; faster, smarter and stronger would work as well.
We can tell you this though, knowing that Motorola is throwing this event is an indication that it’s something big to come. The mystery will be whether or not this device is running Ice Cream Sandwich or not. Samsung and Google were to announce ICS tomorrow at CTIA but out of respect for Steve Jobs and Apple they have postponed that announcement without an official release for a new date.
If the rumors that Samsung and Google will announce ICS at the end of the month on the 27th in London are correct, does that mean Motorola’s announcement is for a Gingerbread device? Or did Motorola just bump the announcement out of Samsung’s hands.
We’ll have to wait and see but again, based on history Motorola and Verizon teaming up for an independent press event means this announcement is big. We’ll be there bringing you all the action.
