Cricket Bails On Plans For Viewsonic Android Tablet

At CTIA this past March, Cricket Wireless talked about plans to setup the 7” Viewsonic ViewPad Android tablet, bundled with a Cricket Wireless 3G mobile hotspot.  Today Cricket’s Greg Lund has said that they’ve cancelled those plans.

Cricket has said that rather than releasing the tablet they are going to focus their efforts on their Muve music service and their smartphone line up.  Earlier this summer Cricket talked about realligning their data strategy.

Cricket would have been the first prepaid carrier to offer an Android tablet.  Their plan was to couple the Viewsonic tablet with Huawei’s Crosswave wifi device.

Viewsonic has been struggling with tablet sales in the U.S.  The Viewpad 7 ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, rather than the standard Honeycomb found on most tablets released in 2011.
