Boost Mobile will start carrying Sprint’s Samsung Transform on October 7th on their unlimited plan with shrinkage. The new CDMA phone features a slide out keyboard, and Android 2.3. The Boost version will be called the Samsung Transform Ultra and will cost $230 off contract.
Boost currently features unlimited service for just $50 which includes talk, text and data. Beginning on October 6th they are going to tack on an additional $5 for Android devices. On the flip side though Boost offers a feature in their plans called shrinkage, and for every six on time payments you get a $5 reduction in your bill, which will eventually get a customer who always pays on time down to just $40 a month, and again that’s unlimited.
In regards to the $5.00 up-charge Sprint’s Jayne Wallace told Fierce Wireless:
“As all carriers are learning, the costs to run smartphones on the network are higher,” Sprint spokeswoman Wallace said “Most BlackBerry plans have had an add-on for the same reason, and we need to continue to invest in network capacity to ensure the best customer experience on the Boost Monthly Unlimited plan with shrinkage.”
More after the break
“If you have been sitting on the sidelines considering no-contract plans or Android smartphones, it’s time to upgrade with the latest Samsung Android devices paired with the award-winning Boost Mobile plans and customer experience,” said Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile. “The Transform Ultra device includes the innovative Mobile ID platform, allowing customers to get a running start in exploring Android applications and widgets based on their personal interest.”
The original Samsung Transform was one of the first phones on Sprint that debuted with the Sprint ID pack service. Sprint ID packs bundle wallpapers, widgets and apps with different themes to make it easier for the user to find the things they want in an easier way. Sprint has partnered with major brands like HSN and MTV to offer great content to their ID ready phones. They also have fitness ID’s, Green/Eco focused ID’s as well as ID’s for business users.
Boost will begin using the ID service as well however with Boost it’s called “Mobile ID”. Boost is one of Sprint’s prepaid brands.
