We reported earlier in the day that our friends at Boy Genius Report had obtained pictures of AT&T’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II. Now we’ve found that Los Angeles based industry Analyst Paul Mueller has told the Examiner, that Verizon will in fact have the first Galaxy S II variant.
According to Mueller, Verizon Wireless’ Samsung Function will be the first Samsung Galaxy S II device to hit the US. He predicts that it could be as soon as August 12th with the other carriers to follow within a month. Mueller also suggests that the delay may be to go in direct competition with Apple’s release of the next generation of iPhone, the iPhone 5.
More after the break
Samsung and Apple are in a heated legal battle over patents which may result in Apple cutting ties with Samsung’s semi-conductor business which has been a major supplier of chips for both iPads and iPhones. Last week we reported that Samsung may have actually pulled ahead of Apple in sales of smartphones in the last quarter. Samsung and Verizon are also debuting a 4G/LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on Friday. There are no versions of 4G devices for any of Apple’s iOS products.
Mueller has said “I’m not sure about the exact date, but I’ve been told that August 12 is a possibility. It will arrive first on Verizon and then the rest of the carriers within a month. Samsung will market this directly against the iPhone 5,” (source: The Examiner)
At this point in time it’s anyone’s guess which carrier will get the Samsung Galaxy S II first. We’ve now heard rumors that it could be anyone of the three carriers said to be getting the device, Sprint, AT&T or Verizon Wireless.
