Twitter Celebrates 5 Years And 350 Billion Tweets Per Day

It seems I’ve found out where the person went that counted how many people were served by McDonalds,  you know who I’m talking about the one that counts the billions and billions served. He (or she) has evidently moved to San Francisco and started working for twitter as they’re now clocking 350 billion tweets per day.

Twitter is celebrating it’s 5th birthday today.  While Google+ is on the rise and it’s rumored that Twitter will begin serving up ads, they took their birthday to announce some impressive stats.  Twitter tooted their own horn Friday in announcing that they currently get 600,000 sign ups per day.  They also said it took about a year and a half to sign up their first 600,000 users. Back five years ago there were 224 tweets per day which, as psfk points out, is how many tweets occur ever 1/10th of a second.

Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams aren’t celebrating this birthday with Twitter they’ve both moved onto other projects. Jack Dorsey, Stone’s original partner in Twitter is back at the helm as he oversees both Twitter and Square.
