Wow. Without rumors, false launch dates, leaks, and delays, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) has quietly rolled out to a few lucky Droid Incredible 2 owners. Sure, we knew it was coming, and a few things here and there have been posted, but nothing close to the terror surrounding Thunderbolt updates. However, if you’re a Droid Incredible 2 owner start abusing the “check new” button in “software update” because the update is steadily rolling out.
The update is set to bring Gingerbread, improved data connectivity, a new docking app, improved device stability, improved word selection and copy functionality, a new download manager app, a new wireless charging interface, NY times bookmark, and a few other tidbits. Of course, the Gingerbread we know and love from phones like the Nexus S has been skinned with HTC Sense, and things like new icons and a new Gingerbread UI are nowhere to be found. I’m still not sure if the screen off animation is still there, but I’m almost positive it has been removed. Incredible 2 owners are obviously going to be excited about this, but where do the Thunderbolt and OG Incredible owners stand? Probably on better ground now, because this means HTC has a CDMA Gingerbread build with Sense ready to roll out, and only a few minor changes are needed to bring it to other devices. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated.Until then, enjoy Gingerbread Dinc2 owners.
