Jesse Jackson Jr.. At Least He Didn’t Blame Android

Posted on Apr 16 2011 - 11:01pm by Kyle

Rainbow Coalition founder Jesse Jackson’s son, Jesse Jackson Jr, a congressman from Illinois took to the house floor on Friday in a wild tyrant against Apple and the Ipad. He postulates that the iPad has cost Americans thousands of jobs. According to Jackson the iPad is responsible for the loss of bookseller jobs, publishing jobs, media jobs, journalist jobs and more.

What’s more is that Jackson cites that fact that while Steve Jobs is doing very well in the United States the iPad is produced in China primarily by foreign parts.

At least with Android we do have processors coming from Texas Instruments and devices coming from Motorola right?

The folks at Geekwire have transcribed the remarks which can be found below the jump

few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happened to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad, download your book, download your newspaper, download your magazine.

Chicago State University, in my congressional district, in freshman class, they are not being given textbooks any longer. They are all being given iPads as they enter school. President Wayne Watson hopes to have a textbook-less campus in four years, where at this state university they will no longer have textbooks.

Well, what becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs? And what becomes of bookstores and librarians and all of the jobs associated with paper? Well, in the not too distant future, such jobs simply will not exist. Steve Jobs is doing pretty well. He’s created the iPad. Certainly, it has made life more efficient for Americans, but the iPad is produced in China. It is not produced here in the United States. So, the Chinese get to take advantage of our First Amendment value β€” that is to provide freedom of speech through the iPad to the American people. But there is no protection for jobs here in America to ensure that the American people are being put to work.”

Silly politician, its called PROGRESS! The poor horse got put out of work when they made cars. Do you hear horses complain? It has been happening for 200+ years now. Steve Jobs is only the latest person to profit from progress. Business is hard. You have to innovate or risk becoming the next buggy whip factory to close. *cough* music industry *cough*

Give it 10 years and we will have robots working at McDonalds. Then people will have something to complain about, but they will get my order right the first time and not give me dirty looks!

Wait robots taking MORE American jobs? Actually that is scary. I need to learn how to fix robots…
