Samsung Indulge On Metro PCS Beat HTC Thunderbolt On Verizon By Bringing The First 4G/LTE Android Device To Market

It’s been widely rumored over the last 24 hours that the HTC Thunderbolt, Verizon’s 1st 4G/LTE enabled phone will be delayed past their initial rumored release date of February 14, 2011.  However in Verizon’s defense they have never officially announced a date, we just know it’s soon.

Despite whether the HTC Thunderbolt actually made it to store shelves on the 14th, prepaid regional carrier Metro PCS and hardware partner Samsung Mobile have announced the availability of the nation’s first Android enabled 4G/LTE smarpthone.  Samsung and Metro PCS also teamed up to deliver the first feature phone for 4G/LTE in the Samsung Craft, which debuted late last year

Although Metro PCS still has a relatively small footprint their markets in major cities such as New York, Dallas and Las Vegas already have 4G/LTE up and running. The Samsung Indulge is lined up and ready to go “later this week”.  With $50/$60 unlimited 4G LTE plans which include voice, text, web and data the best value proposition in markets where Metro PCS has already established, is clear

“Our commitment to offering premium, feature-rich smartphones was once again fulfilled today with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, which will allow consumers to experience the vast benefits of both MetroPCS’ 4GLTE services and the Android operating system,” said Roger D. Linquist, president, CEO and chairman of MetroPCS. “Mobile consumers no longer have to choose between low cost service and high-end Android handsets. Instead, they can truly have it all by being able to select from a full spectrum of feature and smartphones paired with 4GLTE services at an unmatched value.”

“The Galaxy Indulge integrates two of Samsung’s core product investments; the Android platform and bringing powerful and intuitive 4G-enabled devices to the U.S. market,” said Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile. “The Galaxy Indulge is loaded with the speed of the Android OS, true mobile broadband connectivity and a 1GHz processor with rich multimedia features for premium movie and TV content.”

The Samsung Galaxy Indulge features:
Android 2.2
Horizontal sliding keyboard
Access to the Android Market with hundreds of thousands of apps
3 megapixel auto focus camera
4GB microSD card with Iron Man 2 preloaded
1ghz processor
4G/LTE radio
Stereo bluetooth

The Samsung Galaxy Indulge is $399 and remember that is off-contract as MetroPCS is a prepaid carrier.
