This morning HTC has announced two Facebook phones (Surprised huh) these two new devices the Cha-Cha and the Salsa both have unique Facebook integration on top of Android 2.4 Gingerbread (yes 2.4 Gingerbread). Both devices feature a hard coded Facebook button below the normal Android buttons at the bottom of the phone. Both are said to be affordable Android handsets with a focus on social connectivity.
Both the HTC Salsa and The HTC Cha Cha are built on a 600mhz Qualcomm processor. Both phones feature a 5mp rear facing camera and a vga front facing camera. The main difference in the two devices is that the Cha-Cha features a qwerty keyboard and an ability to teach the cha-cha slide on the metro (ok that last part isnt true).
More pics and more about the phones after the break
Both phones feature a hard coded Facebook button at the button which has different functions depending on what the phone is doing at the time that it is pushed. For example if you’re listening to the Cha-Cha slide on the Cha-Cha and hit the Facebook button during the cha-cha slide it will post that you are listening to that song as your Facebook status (pretty groovy). If you’re at Chilis eating Salsa chips and you are taking a picture of your buddies while eating salsa then you hit the Facebook button it will post the picture to Facebook and then ask you to tag it. When you long press the Facebook button it gives you access to Facebook places.
That’s not all though. HTC says that this isn’t a “Facebook” phone it is enhanced for social media. Because the Facebook integration is built into HTC Sense it also gives you options for other social media like Twitter at the exact same time.
HTC says the devices will release in Q2 2011 globally and we are expecting good price points as they called them “Value” phones.
