Google responds to Jobs' accusations

Did you watch the Apple press event today? My Twitter stream says you are a liar. Tons of Android users watched or read or tweeted about the event today. One of the annual events where Apple stands up and pats itself on the back for it’s customers, and then releases “new” products. The part that caught my attention though, was the information regarding activations. Jobs announced his figures for iOS’ growth, and then commented that their “friends” may be padding their numbers with renewals and upgrades, but oh no not them. The slight raised applause and laughter in the halls, and made Apple users feel good about themselves. Until, naturally, Google responded.

The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services.

So, wait, you are telling me that not only does Android still have more new activations per month, but those numbers are only for devices that have Google Apps? So all the tablets, the PMP-like devices… none of those even count? That’s even more impressive, considering the only number being brought against Android are for three different classes of device – Phone, Table, and PMP. Score 100 – Android!
